Vacation is all I ever wanted!

It's beautiful when the sunsets and your prayers have been answered. Please let the mercury drop below 90 degrees so I can get my shriveled ass out of the pool I've been in for 10 hours. Yeah, I know, who in their right mind goes to the desert in the summer? That would be me, I have a week off and am going to visit my Grandma who used to live here in LA until I moved here (hmmmm?) and she decided to skip any future earthquakes and instead opted for being baked alive! I will suck it up to have a few days with the family matriarch who has always been there for me and always believed in me no matter how wild my life gets. I love that 86 year old gal but I'm not going to stay the whole 10 days I have off! The rest of my vaca time will be spent at the Sunset Junction this weekend, ( gotta catch the NY Dolls) the beach, Hollywood Bowl for Rocky Horror and shopping, eating and shopping and eating. Have a good one. I'm out. Posted by Picasa

I Have Kooties!

Posted by Picasa
It doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s ugly.
I would like to thank the people on the plane Amy came to LA in for not having the sense to stay home when ill and to be sure to propagate their illness, will cough, sneeze and spit on everyone within a 5 mile radius without COVERING THEIR MOUTHS! I am convinced that these are the same people who don’t flush public toilets, wash their hands or say excuse me, please or thank you. Is it just me or did common courtesy become extinct along with customer service?
Remember when you mom would knock you into next Tuesday for not saying please or thank you and don’t even think of opening your mouth until you finish that bite of food. When did parents stop teaching their children manners? Does it have to come in video game form for kids to take notice? Like the oozing snot monsters and fecal bombs will get you if you don’t escape to the next level by passing through the secret doorways by using please, thank you and excuse me as passwords until the last level where you save the princess by finishing all your vegetables.
That’s it! I’m calling Nintendo right now and as soon as somebody in customer service helps me…

Mark's Day

Sunday Brunch made up for the early Saturday night! The gang had a great time and how can you avoid it when the place is full of WeHo boys and there is a mirror disco ball in the bathroom ! You can't beat the 1$ Mimosas and 3$ Bloody Marys and great looking burgers. (damn, not eating meat) and the greatest waitress, named Candy. She told us that she didn't want to have to ask what type of toast we wanted and if she had to she would cut us and she already 2 strikes! Funny girl. She wanted to get a job at Tim's restaurant cuz she was tired of that plantation and her master! She also took good care of the Birthday boy and bought drinks and birthday chocolate dessert with ice cream, sooooo good! I again had to call it an early night. I'm getting too old for this!

Mai & I

Here is the lovely Mai, my downstairs neighbor and good friend for 8 years. We were supposed to go to Mexico for some R&R but she decided that last time was a wait at the border and who needs that for a one night's stay so we went to the beach Saturday, she rode her mountain bike and I skated. We were so worm out Saturday night and I felt ill so I called it a night at 7:00! I guess all the recent stress at home wore me out so I just knit until I passed out. Posted by Picasa

Sangria tasting!

I got the date wrong for the wine tasting . It was Thursday not Friday ,Duh. (I swear I am not blonde) No worries, we headed to Cha Cha Cha for happy hour with happy bartender Sarah who took care of us. Good stuff! Afterwards we hit the greatest card store Dorthy's Surrender for a gift for Mark's Birthday brunch on Sunday. Posted by Picasa

Bears, oh my!

I would like to know who's brilliant idea it was to pay 2 guys to dress up in bear costumes to promote the opening of a documentary about a failed actor who spent 13 summers living with and often touching grizzly bears until he was mauled and eaten along with his unlucky girlfriend who had joined him that final summer. Bring the kids! I also wouldn't want to wear that hot suit in the middle of summer. Peeew Unless, of course I had a pink tutu and sequin bikini top. Posted by Picasa

Marketing genius?

I'm thinking Joe is an ass man. There have been about 6 different butt the same billboards on this corner of Sunset Blvd. Joe, do you really have jeans? Do you not make them in pre-teen sizes that will fit the models?
Are you really a company or is this your way of getting chicks naked? I bet you are really a cheesy producer.....

This is why I love California. I can go to the flower market downtown for a last minute flower order and find hydrangea in an amazing pastel yellow and piles of cumquats some of which my chef will turn into a sauce and the client will use for cumquat margaritas. Good stuff! Enjoy the sunny weekend! (unless you are in the valley, then turn on the A/C and have a margarita!) Posted by Picasa

911 Angela

Angela is our Australian nurse friend. She is hard to catch up with but we happened to run into her at Coffee Bean yesterday. She works at UCLA in the ICU 6 days a week and is often reviving flatline patients and dealing with emotionally crazy family members and don't get her started on some of the doctors! I often think that I don't know how she does it. I would hope that if anything happened to me or those I care about, Angela would be in charge of taking care of us all. She is a wonder and often is a step ahead of the doctors as they have all suggested she go back to school to become a doctor. She says no way. The stories she tells of the ICU often leave me in awe or saddened that modern medicine sometimes just isn't enough. Kudos Angela, you are a great nurse and a great friend.
Let me just add that Angela has lost 40lbs in the last year. She made up her mind to work out on her one day off and to change her eating habits and stuck with it AND bought a condo and is remodeling it! How does one get that kind of energy? You go girl! Posted by Picasa

This is what happens to bad kitties that wake me up in the middle of the night!

SAY CHEESE!

Lisa and Mike met us for dinner at the Greek restaurant at Farmers Market last night. We had a great meal and so much for not eating dairy! (they have the best feta cheese and an appetizer that is a slab of cheese that they set on fire at your table and then douse with a squeeze of lemon. Delish!) I know, I am weak! I did not have any meat though, so there! We got together to say bye to Lisa. She has been in LA for way too long and pretty much has been hating it for the last year or so. She is done. Lisa will be flying back to New York Thursday. Her 2 kitties will be heading East after she settles in. We will miss her. She is fun and a great chef. I will definitely miss her famous extravagant brunches. We will certainly have to visit her in her element. Good luck Lisa! Posted by Picasa

Food Lovers

Look how happy we are after consuming great food! We recommend Ulysses Voyage at the Farmers Market/Grove. My restaurant review: Olive bread on every table-good stuff , band playing Greek music-very authentic, Greek waiter-nice but you had to track him down so luckily the bus boys are helpful, all the dishes we had were great and that is saying something as I was in the company of 3 chefs. Check it out! Posted by Picasa

Look at me now!

See what an 11 day cleanse can do! haha I lost 12 pounds and wasn't hungry the whole time and I feel great. I will probably do it for 2 days each month just to keep up with the detox. This is actually Tessa, Danielle & Johnny's daughter. Such a cutie. Posted by Picasa
